KPMG Ignition Centers

KPMG Ignition Centers are unique environments that encourage technological creativity. With project-focused workspaces that foster inventive technology-driven solutions, these centers empower and inspire clients and KPMG team members alike. The spaces feature meeting, recreation, and project spaces to encourage creative thinking along with an open floor plan designed to enhance collaboration, both internally and externally. There are currently four Ignition Centers located in Atlanta, Denver, Grand Rapids and New York.

“I always wanted something that could help tie the Ignition Centers together and felt these lights were a great way to do it. Part of the reason why these particular lights were chosen is the organic look they bring into the environment. An equal part is the sustainable mission that David Trubridge has championed – it is highly aligned to the environment we are trying to create.”

“The David Trubridge lights, with their warm hues and nature inspired geometrics, enhance our overall design principle by bringing natural elements indoors to the workspace. When you enter KPMG Ignition, you instantly know you are in a place where the biases and limitations of traditional workspaces are lifted and the art of the possible thrives. The lights varied heights and sizes instantly draw your attention up and around which puts you in a more creative mood and makes you want to think about how you can interact with the space. The light fixtures perfectly align with our intent and one of the central inspiration themes of David Trubridge – to give people in the space a feeling of “reconnecting” with nature.”

“Each center has a unique combination of fixtures that provide commonality across the spaces but reflect the individuality of each location. We are very proud that the fixtures are a central component of the design and that those who visit and use the spaces react so positively. Reconnecting with nature is a central tenant of the David Trubridge range so it’s fantastic to see this embraced, particularly in Atlanta where the Ignition Center is on an upper floor of a high rise that looks out into the tree canopy. Brilliant!”

“The Trubridge lighting in the Atlanta Ignition Center really serves as a jumping off point that draws the eye up to the incredible tree canopy that really resonates with the theme of green living and Atlanta being the city amongst the trees. The light fixtures are pieces of art themselves with the level of detail and varying levels of size and strategic placement. They are one of the first things you see when you walk into the space, and it really sets the stage for the fun and fresh concept of the entire office.”

Story

The Coral pendant light was David Trubridge’s first lighting design, created in 2002, and is now considered a design classic.

As with many of Trubridge’s award-winning designs, the Coral pendant was developed through play. The Coral fixture is based on one of the geometric polyhedra that have interested Trubridge since he was a boy. He developed the design over years experimenting with different materials and construction techniques before coming up with the current lighting design, which has maximum impact using minimal materials.

Koura Story: Kōura pendant light by David Trubridge is a droplet-like form, which mimics the curled form of native New Zealand marine species Kōura (named by the indigenous Māori people). The fixture is made from sustainable bamboo and is also inspired by the intricately made traps used by early Māori to trap or store food.

Kina Story: The Kina pendant light is one of the most popular fixtures from David Trubridge. Every fixture is made from sustainable bamboo and was inspired by the natural patterns evident in Kina ( the Maori word for “sea urchin”).

Floral Story: The Floral pendant light by David Trubridge Design. The curvy cousin of the Coral, the Floral fixture reveals stunning flower shadows when illuminated to bring project nature on surfaces in the space. Floral was designed three years after Coral light which is based on geometric polyhedra forms. Floral was designed to offer a softer more decorative offering alongside Coral which is more structured.

The Seed System

These fixtures are part of the Seed System family. Seed System is a design philosophy developed by David Trubridge to minimizes the effects of shipping on the environment. This means thinking with this in mind right from design conception through to production, packaging and the consumer experience. On average every Seed System kitset is 1/30th of the size of a fully assembled light. The light is easy to construct by following printed instructions included with the kitset and an online video.

“I work within the limits of what I have and know, simplicity and low impact, natural materials and processes, leaving a delicate footprint.” – David Trubridge
