wakaNINE ICFF 2018 – May 20-23, 2018 – Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, NYC

ICFF 2018 was a memorable and big success. It was great to see many of our manufacturers and rep family (whanau). If you were not able to make it to the show or want a quick reminder of what you saw, we are excited to give you a recap of our exhibit.

For those of you that don’t know, ICFF is North America’s premier showcase for contemporary design. ICFF annually lures those in determined pursuit of design’s timely truths and latest trends to an encyclopedic exhibition of up-to-the-moment offerings, as well as a series of fascinating, fun, edifying programs, and a packed schedule of exhibits and features. It was great to be with many world class brands!

We unveiled a host of new design innovations at ICFF 2018 – all bearing signature global design elements and an uncompromised dedication to sustainability. We showcased new work from David Trubridge and IQ Commercial of New Zealand; Ango of Thailand; and Stephen Pikus Design of South Africa.

We were proud to showcase our designs in a 100% recyclable booth, in an effort to minimize the negative environmental impact on NYC. Our booth was designed by David Trubridge & Ergo Experiential. The innovative design was shipped to ICFF as a kitset and assembled on site. wakaNINE removed all items including trash from ICFF in an effort to minimize the negative environmental impact on the local area. The booth structure will be reconfigured for several other shows and then reused for packaging.

ICFF also marked the world debut of David Trubridge’s first collection of table lamps and wall sconces, adding to its international award winning line of pendant lighting.

David Trubridge also showed Maru for the first time worldwide. Maru is the latest feature lighting design from the David Trubridge studio. Although the prototype is well advanced, it will not be ready for sale until April 2019 due to time taken by testing facilities to certify it in our main markets. It continues on from the Navicula light released in 2017 which was based on the forms of Diatoms.

Stephen Pikus Design returned to ICFF this year with a full line of pendants fashioned from upcycled diesel truck air filters. The raw materials for the TRuK fixtures are salvaged from local landfills around Johannesburg, South Africa and transformed into metallic pendants that cast dramatic shadow patterns on the ceiling and walls.

Also showcased was Stephen Pikus’s Fire + Ice which utilizes recycled glass that is cleaned & tumbled to create one of a kind frosted pieces that are linked together and hung from a metallic frame. The pieces form a “curtain” of glass that refracts and diffuses light as well as moves with breeze and wind – sometimes the pieces clink together like a wind chime. Glass pieces are available in white/clear as shown as well as many shades of blues and greens.

ANGO manufactures an award winning line of pendant lights and table lamps handcrafted in Bangkok, Thailand. Fixtures on display feature unique natural elements such as raw silk cocoons, rattan, mulberry bark and metal filigree. The Auroral pendants and Table Lampsare new to the North American market.

HUSH Acoustic Lighting was showcased, a line of high performing light fixtures scientifically proven to reduce reverberations and create a more pleasant sound environment. These fixtures are primed for commercial, hospitality or residential environments.

TESTIMONIALS

See what attendees had to say about our booth and brands.

“I really enjoyed our time together during ICFF…I always look for The WOW at tradeshows and wakaNINE was at the top!”
– Interior Design Magazine

“Like a moth to a flame burned by the fire. ..that’s how I felt walking up to this booth. It was glowing so nicely I fluttered over there.”
– Interiors by Magda

“The WakaNine booth was one of my favorite spots at ICFF – innovative in every sense of the word. Eco-friendly brands like David Trubridge, Ango and Truk showed off stunning new forms in a booth that itself was made from recycled cardboard. What better way to promote sustainability than with a zero waste booth!”
– Lightology

“The Trubridge exhibit was a welcoming, warmly lit refuge of beautiful floating shapes aglow. Each fixture cast a unique pattern of light-play on the adjacent walls or ceiling above. ”
