Angus Hutcheson is the lead designer of the unique and beautiful ANGO lighting range created in Bangkok, Thailand. The ANGO team initiates the creation process through doing what they love, developing their own designs and then assembling teams to handcraft and realize each type of production. ANGO describes the method as “connecting electric dreams with originality and sophistication, creating lighting and light fantasies that are uplifting and unique.”
Working at the intersection between design, materials development and innovative production processes, all of the light diffuser materials in ANGO lights have their own character. The materials are often “found” natural ones or a composite / natural material developed by experimentation. Silk cocoons, mulberry bark and rattan are the basis of much of the range. ANGO observes and investigates what’s possible with sometimes accidental or unpredictable outcomes.
Inspiration is drawn equally from the chaotic, bustling and historic city and the contrasting peacefulness and beauty of the rural areas. Each fixture is handcrafted with love and care; some fixtures take many days to produce via an intensive and precise creation process. The low impact / low energy intensive process of how ANGO creates designs is representative of their view of how enlightened, environmentally responsible 21st century design and production can be. ANGO’s starting point is the energy, purity and truthfulness of light, creating design pieces with the love that they hope will fulfill your space with light energy.
